About the racecourse

Prague-Velká Chuchle

CONSEQ-PARK

Prague’s Velká Chuchle racecourse, situated on the south-west edge of the city, started its rich history with the first race held there on 28th September 1906, and therefore we are coming close to the 110th anniversary of the beginning of horse races in the territory of the capital city. Since the very beginning of its existence, it has always been the central point of the Czech and Czechoslovak turf and its vital role in the national horseracing sport has always been acknowledged by government bodies. During the times of the first Czechoslovak Republic, the racecourse was often visited by the president T. G. Masaryk who also established a popular horse race named the President’s Cup to commemorate the anniversary of the formation of Czechoslovakia.

Since 1921, the prestigious event of the Czech Derby has been held in Chuchle. Its history has not always been favourable and in recent years the racecourse has been repeatedly hit by serious flooding. In 2002 and in 2013 the whole racecourse was flooded with water from the swollen Vltava river. Therefore a lot of effort had to be made to reinstate the original condition of the racecourse. Nowadays Velká Chuchle is a prime venue in the map of Czech horseracing sport. 1939 was also the first time that the Winter Favourite Cup was organised, another prestigious horse race held in Chuchle during the year.

The racecourse in Velká Chuchle has a length, width, profile and track quality which are in full compliance with parameters of main racecourses both in Europe and all over the world. The racetrack is 2,225 metres long and 17 to 24 metres wide. The vertical distance of the racecourse is only 2.08 metres. The track has a maximum capacity of 16 racers and the main stands in the racecourse can seat 5,000 spectators. The racecourse is equipped with numerous modern advertising features.

In short, the traditional Chuchle racecourse is an ideal place where not only Prague inhabitants but also visitors of the capital city of the Czech Republic can spend their leisure time in a pleasant way, have fun and experience the unique and unrepeatable thrill of betting on horses. The rich accompanying programme offers wonderful entertainment during the whole event. The racecourse is an ideal place for making new personal or business relationships during these events.
